Welcome to Rachel's House of Cheer
Private and Small Group Sport Specific Training specializing in tumbling for athletes in cheerleading, gymnastics, and dance. It is what we do outside of practice and rehearsal that grows strength and builds our skill set. The extra work we put in is what makes us truly shine on the mat and stage.

The Story Behind
Rachel's House of Cheer
Rachel's House of Cheer started with my son Ryder and 1 mat in our front yard. My son Ryder started showing an interest in tumbling from an early age. We tried all different sports like soccer, t-ball, taekquondo (he loved the tumbling, hated the sparring), and gymnastics at a local gymnastics gym. Again he loved the tumbling aspect, but didn't quite care for the other events. He also has loved to dance since he was able to walk. When he was in pre-school he did tap and ballet and pretty much stole the show at the recital. I knew he had a gift for dance, something he definitely inherited from my granny. She owned her own dance studio in Brooklyn New York in her younger days and was always the performer. I clearly got all my talent from her and she was always our biggest cheerleader. Ryder wanted to tumble and dance so we got him on a competitive dance team and at the first competition he watched the cheerleaders perform and he said that's what he wanted to do. Naturally I was thrilled at the opportunity to re-live my cheerleading dreams. That Christmas Ryder got an inflatable tumble mat and we started practicing in the yard. He quickly starting picking up the skills needed to make a level one team at the cheer gym and at evaluation time he was selected for one of the level one mini teams. Being a first timer on the mat we were receiving quite a few compliments on how well he was doing with his skills and when I told people I had pulled him out of gymnastics and had been working with him in our yard it sparked some interest among some of the other moms and friends of mine who started asking if I would be willing to help some of their younger kids that were also new to cheer. I started working with a handful of little cheerleaders working on the basic cheerleading skills, jumps, and tumbling. These littles started showing progress fairly quickly and were having so much fun that other moms started inquiring about my lessons for their kids that were a little older. So we got some more mats and more cheerleaders to work with. I realized that this was truly what I was put on this earth to do and decided I would do whatever it took to make this dream of teaching cheer a career. Fast forward about 6 months, I left my full time personal training job and started devoting more time to teaching my private lessons. I now had a few older kids I was working with and now not just cheerleaders, but also dancers wanting to learn acro (tumbling) skills, gymnasts, and kids that really just wanted to get stronger and learn some tumbling skills. I decided this business needed a name. My granny's dance studio was named the Barbara Joy Dance Studio so I knew it had to be named after me and I do the lessons at my house, so Rachel's House of Cheer, LLC was founded. This business has grown totally organically by word of mouth from all the parents of the kids that have loved their lessons. It's not just about getting a specific skill or perfecting a jump, it's also about building confidence. I take great pride in what I do and my goal for every lesson is to bring fun energy and excitement to help create a love for the sport.

About Me
My name is Rachel Vinson
Rachel was born and raised right here in Virginia Beach, VA. Her interest in cheerleading began at the age of 10 when her parents took her to a collegiate football game at Virginia Tech. It was Virginia Tech vs The University of Miami Hurricanes where her mom attended college. At an alumni event Rachel got to meet and see the Hurricane cheerleaders perform tumbling, jumping, and being tossed in the air and that right there was the moment she knew she wanted to be a cheerleader. She attended Cox Cheer Camp and received awards for being the "best all around" and "most likely to cheer for COX" where she would eventually cheer and compete on the gymnastics team a few years later. Rachel's ultimate dream was to cheer in college and through lots of hard work, discipline, and perseverance she made that dream a reality. In the fall of 2000 she tried out and made the co-ed cheerleading team at East Carolina University where she continued to cheer and received a B.S. in Exercise Science. After graduating college she started her career in the fitness industry as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and even taught gymnastics for a few years before having her son, Ryder. She now has over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and is also a certified nutrition coach.
